One in five Americans is attempting a replace gluten or gluten-free diet. This diet is simply cutting out, or reducing, the amount of gluten you ingest. Do you know what gluten is? It’s a mixture of storage proteins which give many foods its glue-like consistency. It can be found in wheat, barley, rye, and malt. Many Americans are steering away from gluten and replacing it with the ever-popular trend of juicing.
So Why Avoid Gluten?
Originally, a gluten free diet was recommended for people with celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder where gluten damages the inside of the small intestines of sufferers. Although only 1 percent of the world suffers from celiac disease, other people have joined the gluten-free diet because of its other health problems. Gluten is known to cause severe inflammation of the intestinal tract of our body, which results in damaged walls, digestive problems, and irritable bowel movements. It can also malfunction the immune system and lead to hypothyroidism, multiple sclerosis, Type I diabetes, anemia, dermatitis herpetiformis, and osteoporosis. Avoiding gluten in your daily life could help prevent these diseases and increase your level of energy, happiness, and help you lose weight.
Replace Gluten with Juice!
So what is a healthy alternative to gluten? Why not jump on another bandwagon and try a juice cleanser. The juice cleanse phenomenon has become hugely popular and can have many health benefits. However, you should be sure that you’re doing it properly. Use your juicing to get your daily dose of fruit and veggies. It is recommended you eat 5-13 servings, or 2.5-6.5 cups of fruit and vegetables every day. Sometimes this can be hard so juicing is a great and healthy way to get your daily dose while staying healthy and fit. However, don’t use juicing as a meal replacement strategy. You still need to eat proteins, fat, and carbohydrates to create a balanced diet. Otherwise, the juicing will leave you with less energy and a slower metabolism.
Your parents may have asked you “If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?” Sometimes the bandwagon steers you in the wrong direction, but this time, a gluten-free juicing based diet encouraged by people around you, your peer group, could bring about a healthier lifestyle.
