Melon-Sharlyn
$4.99
Sharlyn melons are oval to round, small to moderately sized fruits, averaging 5 to 7 inches in diameter and 3 to 5 pounds. The skin is firm, thin, and covered in rough and raised, textured netting. When young, the skin is dark to pale green, and as the melon ripens, it transforms into a golden yellow hue. The flesh is white, ivory to pale orange, with an aromatic, semi-soft, aqueous, and succulent consistency underneath the surface.
The flesh inside encases a tiny central cavity filled with edible seeds that are cream-colored suspended in a gelatinous juice with threadlike fibers.
Sharlyn melons are appreciated for their pronounced floral aroma fruity with tropical, pineapple-like notes. The distinct scent intensifies with maturity and is capable of penetrating other foods that are stored nearby. Sharlyn melons can be eaten slightly green, containing a honeydew-like taste. Still, the melons are mostly favored for their ripe flesh, bearing a honeyed and floral, nectar-like taste with coconut, pineapple, and caramel nuances.
